SUMMARY:Akrodha: A zerOclassikal EXTRAPOLATE World Premiere
DESCRIPTION: zerOclassikal and Collage Arts present the world premiere
of AKRODHA, a piece for bansuri (bamboo flute) and dilruba (bowed sit
ar) composed by Kiran Sodhi-Kalsi-Ghatoure, that blends analog and dig
ital sounds to create an otherworldly experience. Akrodha (अक्
 ोध)—meaning \"freedom from anger\"—draws inspiration from Ki
ran’s experiences with EMDR therapy and non-Western healing practice
 s. This composition unfolds in a dream-like landscape of layered, loop
ing soundscapes, exploring the tension between conflicting multiplicit
y and harmonious unity — both within ourselves and in communication
with those around us. As the music progresses, heavy emotions are unea
rthed and transformed, leading the overall mood to lightness and liber
ation. Kiran SKG will be performing with bansuri (bamboo flute), dilru
ba (bowed sitar) and a digital loop station, accompanied by multi-inst
rumentalist Joe Steele who will be performing with synth keyboard, mel
odica and western concert flute. A zerOclassikal EXTRAPOLATE commissi
on. EXTRAPOLATE is new work that originates from the South Asian Class
ical structure and progresses it further in ways that sometimes challe
nges its conventional structure or enhances it beyond present percepti
ons. Whether it explores tonal material or redefines the use of taal o
r merely steps out of conventions, EXTRAPOLATE will seek to listen to
South Asian Classical music in a way it had never been thought of befo
re. The second half: FREE FLOW CLASSIKAL will feature renowned compos
er Jonathan Mayer on sitar, accompanied by Karamel’s jazz regulars P
aul Clarvis on tabla, John Parricelli on guitar and Jazz trumpeter Hen
ry Lowther. Free Flow Classikal is a new border dwelling concept that
explores free improvisation across music genres perspective-ed from s
outh Asian classical form - in development at Karamel, home of zerOcla
