DESCRIPTION:We all know that the Bayeux tapestry (which is not actuall
 y a tapestry at all) tells us about the Battle of Hastings, doesn’t 
 it?\nActually, the tapestry tells us far more. Generally regarded as o
 ne of the greatest works of art, if not the greatest, of the early med
 ieval period, it gives deep insights into everyday life of the period.
  In his talk, Mike Brown will look at what the tapestry actually is, w
 ho made it, how, when, and most interestingly, why. He looks at the do
 zen named people, the unanswered questions, how did Harold die, who wa
 s Aelfgifu, and what was she doing with the monk, and modern discoveri
 es, such as the throwing mace.\nDoors open at 7.30pm for the sale of r
 efreshments and publications and close at 8pm. The main doors have to 
 be closed at that time for security reasons, so anyone arriving after
