 e .......Founded by upper class women in churches in the 19th century 
 to help make clothes for poor people, or to support women to become se
 lf-sufficient through the skill of working with a needle. During the 1
 950s and 1960s, Caribbean women in London would meet in their Front Ro
 oms. The Clubs and Societies were a support network, where textiles fo
 rmed the link.\nThis talk discusses the hidden histories of Dorcas Soc
 ieties in London and around Haringey. Rose Sinclair considers the text
 iles created by the Caribbean women of the 1950s and 1960s and their c
 ontribution to a British textiles aesthetic, through the ‘gift’ of
