SUMMARY:Talk: What is public art? Who is it for? A new permanent artwo
 rk at Seven Sisters Station
DESCRIPTION:To mark a new artwork by Turner Prize winning collective A
ssemble at Seven Sisters Station, Art on the Underground curator Kiera
Blakey will discuss the role of contemporary public art today. Commi
ssioned by Art on the Underground and due for completion in Summer 201
7 the artwork challenges traditional notions of public art as a monume
nt or formal sculpture. The artists have developed a shop unit that ha
s lain derelict on the Seven Sisters Station approach for 20 years. Fr
om rebuilding the structure, to an interim use as a ceramic studio, th
e unit will eventually be returned to function as a commercial unit. I
n relation to this turn in public art, Kiera will discuss the differen
t modes of public art today and why work like Assemble’s is more imp
ortant than ever.\nFor more information on Art on the Underground, see
: http://art.tfl.gov.uk/  For more information on Assemble, see: http
://assemblestudio.co.uk/\nDoors open at 7pm. Talk begins tat 7.30pm.Ca
