Odd poster in window of barbers pushing the merits of a Bill Clinton haircut which has never been high fashion, except maybe in Myddleton Road!

One of a sequence of photographs taken by Richard Ainsworth in May/June 1999.

I recieved an e-mail this week from Gerry Byman in response to this photograph. Gerry who now lives in Kent writes:

I was pleased to see the Bill Clinton haidressers poster as I produced that for Paul Laski who owned the shop during the late 90's - I lived in Whittington Road at the time. ... As I was a signwriter I was always producing signs and posters for various shops etc. one day there was a news item about Bill Clinton's flight being delayed because he was having a haircut, which cost a lot, while the plane had to wait for him , so I did the poster  for Paul's hairdressers comparing the price difference.

Gerry has promised to send further memories of Myddleton Rd including as far back to the 50's when we used to skip school dinners at Bounds Green school to buy chips there.

Incidentally the story behind the poster - US president Bill Clinton delaying air traffic at Los Angeles International Airport  whilst he had a haircut on Air Force One - has often been repeated but were fundamentally groundless.
