Hello Everyone!

We are trying to promote our Personal Assistant programme in Haringey. We have been distributing our promotional material to supermarket notice boards and few other places. However we are keen to access community noticeboards - which all seem to be securely locked. Does anyone know whether Haringey Council has an officer that manages these noticeboards? Or are there a network of local residents that hold keys for noticeboards?

Hi Bowes and Bounds

First of all happy Xmas and New Year to you all. And wishing you all a better 2022. This too shall pass…

I am sure a lot of you will remember David Rennie of Crescent Road (now living with his daughter in Southend) who created the Water Game, which he ran for many years at the Palace Gates Summer Fete and Fins Feste (plus others).

About a year ago I completed a film about David and his invention. It was uploaded on to Youtube and a website for it was created (see links below). Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update as to what has happened with the film because as you will see, it has been quite eventful.

Films by their very nature are big and loud, they are made to be seen by as many people as possible, and not hidden away in a cupboard somewhere. So, after it was shown in the community, the next challenge was to find a new audience to tap into the very positive messages behind the Water Game film.

I started by using David’s Green party background and contacting groups throughout the UK, asking them and their members to watch the film, discuss it and generally spread the word. That worked for a bit but it was a lot of effort for a small amount of new viewers.

But then I started thinking about film festivals and the fact that the green, educational and quirky message within the Water Game was truly international, especially once foreign language subtitles were added to it.

So that is what I did. Below is a map of the countries holding film festivals that the Water Game was submitted to. The beauty of the film festivals is that if it gets selected (which is a big IF as some festivals get around 3,000 plus entries) it get shown for a period either in a cinema or online.

And we have had some success. Semi-finalist in Stockholm and California. And Finalist in a French and Turkish Film Festival. And in the months to come hopefully some more.

It’s also been translated into several languages – French, Spanish and Turkish (thanks to the Istanbul International Architecture and Urban Films Festival).

Finally, it also recently won an award. A Golden Copernicus at the 12th Educational Film Festival Edukino in Warsaw, Poland.

https://www.edukino.pl/index.php

And as I said, it is still going around festival to festival and spreading the word. In fact on Boxing day it’s going to be shown on Brighton’s local TV channel and soon hopefully on Sheffield’s local TV.

If you are intrigued by the film and have not yet seen it

You can watch it on YouTube www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhDwlLCMEk&t=19s

If you like it and want to support it, please subscribe to the Youtube Water Game channel and maybe leave a comment – as this helps promote it on Youtube and attract new viewers.

There is also a supporting website: www.watergame.co.uk

Many thanks.

A trio of Palmers Green authors were out on the street in Green Lanes last weekend selling signed copies of their comic novel, Work in Progress, hot off the press. Thanks to a massive crowdfunding effort by some 250 supporters, their dream of getting the book published is no longer a work in progress - and it's already attracting rave reviews.

Authors Dan Brotzel, Martin Jenkins and Alex Woolf originally wanted their farcical novel-in-emails to be called Kitten on a Fatberg, but publishers Unbound insisted on a less surreal title for this story of an eccentric writers group written by a group of..well, only slightly eccentric writers.

Work in Progress is available from all good bookshops or you can buy it as an ebook direct from the publishers. If you'd prefer it delivered, forget Amazon and buy it from uk.bookshop.org, the online bookseller that generates money for local bookshops - the total amount passed on so far is nearly £1.5 million.

If you run or work for a small business, we understand that you’re pulled in all manner of directions, so we’re incredibly grateful when we hear you want to support us through your venture and donate just by doing the work you already do.

We’ve found an even easier way for your small business to donate to us, through the sales of your products and services. You can choose the amount and frequency of your donations - plus, with no minimum (or maximum!) donation amount, it encourages flexible fundraising for you as a small business to give as you grow.

By pledging your donation via our Work for Good page, https://workforgood.co.uk/charities/leukaemia-cancer-society/ we can keep track of your wonderful support and you can join the small business community by donating in a legal, simple and sustainable way that works for you and your business.

To support us through your sales, you must have a Commercial Participation Agreement set up, which is created through the Work for Good donations form. You’ll then have the right agreement in place to be able to market your giving and you’ll be able to proudly publicise your support for Leukaemia Cancer Society in plain text; alongside the Work for Good logo.

We’d love to join you on your journey - if you’d like to start supporting us, simply sign up and pledge your donation here https://workforgood.co.uk/charities/leukaemia-cancer-society/

Hi, I'm looking to build a small eco (passive) house. The house would be approx 60sqm, so quite small. Looking for a home owner with either a very large garden, ideally with side access, or a garage you no longer use? The main build of the house would be done off-site so very minimal disruption during the build. If you want to call or email me directly; laura@hetu.co.uk or 07391700816. Thanks in advance!

Trinity Grammar School Wood Green – calling all former pupils!

Trinity Grammar School existed on Bounds Green Road, behind the Civic Centre in Wood Green until 1962 when it relocated to White Hart Lane. This an appeal to former pupils and relatives (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles!) who have an association with the school to get in contact, even if they have now moved out of the area. There is a newly reactivated website with lots of information (photos, memories and stories)…

The telecoms operator say they have sent letters to school, nurseries, councillors and MP but had no reply.

Apart from being a horrible entry to our conservation area, the assorted paraphernalia on the pavement will make it even more crowded on that corner when waiting to cross the road. There are many other reasons to oppose those in my view. And, it should definitely be a wider consultation as I know there is a view about health implications.
Scamtag:bowesandbounds.org,2020-04-06:6278630:BlogPost:1412612020-04-06T06:50:27.000ZNWhttps://bowesandbounds.org/profile/NikkiWollheim

Hi there I'm off on holiday from Tue 24th until Thur 27 th December and would love to find someone local, who loves dogs to care for mine whilst I'm away.

I travel abroad around 2 to 3 weeks a year and to leave my little treasure within a loving home would give me peace of mind whilst I'm away.

Walking my little dog twice a day only for around 10 mins each day is enough..
He's a typical lapdog so needs someone who ideally works from home or retired as does not like to be left alone for more…

Hello everyone my name is John. I appreciate there are other sites/places which (on the face of it) are more relevant for people finding. However, to be frank, I have exhausted them all.

To begin, I am not a local! I live, and have always lived in Luton, Beds. Hope you will let me off the intrusion!

One lovely summers day back in 1967, my mate and I decided to take a non planned random tour around parts of North London. We were both age 20 at the time. We set off going through St. Albans, London Colney, then on to near nearby South Mimms. Taking a turn which led us through to Barnet. On to Whetstone (remember the tall Ever Ready Building) and for no particular reason we turned down Colney Hatch Lane. Or a road eventually leading to it.

Along the way we espied two pretty young ladies crossing the road at a set of traffic lights. Being cheeky chappies, we wound the window down and asked if they would care to join us for a coffee.

To our surprise and delight they agreed. We all got on extremely well and agreed to meet again. We had lots of nice trips out to Clacton, Southend-On-Sea and Bournemouth and other places. We met their parents and they came to Luton and met ours too.

Sadly the romances came to an end. Mixture of little spare money for petrol, and the sheer distance involved. Or it seemed so- in those days. I guess more importantly, there was there was an imbalance. They were both somewhat keener than we were. I guess we were still not ready to make it a long term thing. To be honest they deserved better than us two rascals as we were. But as the years have gone by we both have serious regrets, and a sense of sadness, that we could and should, have treated them better.

They were so lovely and kind to us. Both of us now in our early 70s we have dedicated quite a lot of time over many years in attempting to find them. Thus far we have made little progress. I am the main researcher (Indeed I am a genealogy specialist and tracer) but this one has beaten me!

Here is what we have:- one of the Girls My (friends) ex ,-lets say#1. We have the full maiden and married name and region she lived-Wood Green. and was Born in Wood Green 1950. We have traced hetr to a current address today. It was no easy task by the way. Written 3 x but no response. As a last resort (as the address could be out of date) I respectfully spoke to her "other half" Just asking if she is doing fine? and to say hello. But he flatly denies it is her-a pity as I know it is her. # 2. Sadly I can't recall her surname, but I know 100% she lived in Woodberry Crescent as I visited her quite a lot. Have worked though the 1967 electoral roll and placed some of the residents who are still there, but no go!

What I am thinking is that if anyone knew these two girls (they were good friends) it might unlock something. As I stated we have one full name, and one christian name.

Hope I haven't bored you all too much.

Lastly, we are both happily married with grandkids etc. Not looking for anything more than to reconnect and and the odd cup of coffee maybe. Time is running out for us all!
Spring Festival Week at The Community Hub Haringeytag:bowesandbounds.org,2019-03-18:6278630:BlogPost:1354502019-03-18T17:59:33.000ZThe Community Hub Haringeyhttps://bowesandbounds.org/profile/TheCommunityHubHaringey
