Enfield Council Statement on Primary Provision in south west Enfield

A statement was published on the LB Enfield website yesterday about new provision for primary school places in our area from September 2014 the statement is reproduced below:

Enfield Council promised when it embarked on its multi million pound primary expansion programme that we would provide more high quality primary school places in the areas they were most needed.

Consequently we will meet the need for more primary school places in the southwest of the borough by opening a partner school managed by Bowes Primary School

Bowes Primary School is rated outstanding by Ofsted and will be providing places for more children when the next academic year begins.

The school already supports pupils at three sites in the south of Enfield and from September 2014 will have an additional reception class at a new location at new temporary facilities at Broomfield School in Wilmer Way before moving to a permanent home.

Enfield Council closely monitors the demand for school places and recent population projections, alongside the school admissions process, and we are aware that from September 2014 there will be a need for reception classes in this area.

The new provision is part of the council’s ongoing strategy and long term plans to ensure every child in the borough is able to access a school place.

Enfield’s School Expansion Programme has already delivered 4,410 primary places in new facilities in other parts of the borough and I am very pleased that the next phase includes plans for permanent provision in the southwest of the borough.”

Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services and Protection.

Sarah Turner, Executive Headteacher of Bowes Primary School, said: “I am delighted at being able to help meet the local need for primary school places and give more children the opportunity of an outstanding education. Peter Travis, Headteacher at Broomfield School, is pleased to support Bowes to provide school places in the area.”

Parents who are interested in a place at the school will need to apply through Enfield Schools Admission Service.
