A much missed and nationally known company once had its head quarters in Myddleton Road.

Today 120 Myddleton Road is home to Barnet Brake & Clutch Services, Motor Factors.

But in the 1940s and 50s it served as the base for a company who were a household name in pest control. Scram was a mouse deterrent once widely stocked by Boots, Timothy Whites, Taylors and numerous other stores throughout the land.

It was also widely advertised in newspapers and magazines throughout the UK. If you couldn't find Scram in your local shop then you could always get a supply, post free mind, from 120 Myddleton Road.  This advert from 1945 is typical.

Other ads include testimonials, "No mice since 1943, writes a lady" being the most common used. The efficacy of Scram mouse repelling powder seems beyond doubt.

Satisfied past customers are still trying to find supplies of Scram. This forlorn question from an Amazon discussion forum was asked by "Fred" just last year, "Where in London can I buy Scram? Many years ago Scram was a powder which you sprinkled around the skirting board,it was harmless to the mouse it just irritated their feet and was very effective". Sadly no-one was able to help Fred.

From the mid 1950s the adverts suddenly stopped appearing, it seems that Scram ceased trading. Do you know what happened to the company? Or do you have any memories to share about the golden days of Scram? If so please use the comments to share your recollections of this Bowes Park institution.
