A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
The Boundary Commission has concluded its review of parliamentary and local authority constituency boundaries ... although the report was not due to be released until Wednesday what at looks like the full report has been leaked through Political blogger Guido Fawkes website. See the London Section here
The big change for our area is the proposal that Bowes Ward becomes part of the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency - currently represented by Lib Dem MP and Minister Lynne Featherstone!
The relevant sections of the leaked report readas follows:
38. In Haringey, we noted that the Hornsey and Wood Green constituency could be left
unchanged, but in order to accommodate changes elsewhere, we propose to include
one ward (Stroud Green) in the Tottenham constituency. We also propose to include
one Enfield ward (Bowes) from the existing Enfield, Southgate constituency in the
Hornsey and Wood Green constituency.
39. In Enfield, we noted that the borough was too large for two constituencies. We propose
an Enfield Southgate constituency containing eight wards from the centre and west of
the borough, including two (Bush Hill Park and Haselbury) from the existing Edmonton
constituency. We also decided to create an expanded Enfield North constituency
containing eight wards, including one (Ponders End) from the existing Edmonton
constituency.
At this stage these are still proposals. Consultation on the initial proposals run for a 12-week period, from 13 September 2011 to 5 December 2011.
Details on public hearings which for North East London will be held in East Ham Town Hall on 27-28th October can be found on page 19 of the link above

Further news on the proposed electoral boundary changes today from The Guardian website who have done a quick bit of analysis and mapped the new boundaries. They have included a projection of how things would have looked if the 2010 election had been fought with the new constituency make-up.
The website has a list of the new constituencies and a downloadable set of voting data from the last election.
Our local constituencies of Hornsey and Wood Green (Lyne Featherstone MP Lib Dem) and Enfield Southgate (David Burrowes MP Con) remain unchanged on the map. However the Guardian by it own admission calls this "crude" analysis as they assume an even vote across the constituency. I can't help thinking that if Hornsey and Wood Green Lost Stroud Green Ward, which elected three Lib Dem Councillors last time and gained Bowes Ward, which has consistently elected three Labour Councillors Hornsey and Wood Green would not be a safe seat for the current MP Ms Featherstone.
The impact on the Enfield Southgate constituency is not so striking - although Haselbury has three Labour Councillors, Bush Hill Park is strongly Conservative as a by election last month demonstrated.
The re-drawing of the boundaries will impact directly on Bowes Ward - like several other places across England - we are likely to be located in a "cross border" constituency straddling two local authorities, Enfield and Haringey for parliamentary elections.
No. Bowes Ward will still remain as part of the London Borough of Enfield, (beloved Enfield?) However for Parliamentary Elections it will form part of the Hornsey and Wood Green Constituency - all the other wards in that constituency are within Haringey.
This proposal (and it is still a proposal - not a decision) doesn't affect Council Tax, Schools, Libraries, Bin collections or any other area of local authority services.
Revised Boundary Changes:
Last year's proposal that Bowes Ward would be included, along with Bounds Green ward in a revised Hornsey and Wood Green constituency have now been overturned. The latest revision of new electoral bondaries have been published today - which sees Bowes returned to the Enfield Southgate Constituency.
The latest settlement is open for consultation until December 10th. Here is what the official statement from LB Ealing says:
The Boundary Commission for England has published its revised proposals for new parliamentary constituency boundaries. The proposals have been amended by Independent Assistant Commissioners following full consideration of the representations made as part of the consultation exercises undertaken in 2011 and earlier this year.
The full report is available online at the Boundary Commission website It is also available to view at the Electoral Services Office, 1 Gentleman's Row, Enfield, EN2 6QQ along with a map of all the proposed constituencies.
For ease of reference, the revised proposals as they affect Enfield are:
1. The proposed Enfield North constituency will remain unchanged from that originally proposed, i.e. Chase, Enfield Highway, Enfield Lock, Highlands, Ponders End, Southbury, Town and Turkey Street;
2. The proposed Enfield Southgate constituency will be amended to include the Bowes ward, i.e. Bowes, Bush Hill Park, Cockfosters, Grange, Palmers Green, Southgate, Southgate Green and Winchmore Hill;
3. The proposed Chingford and Edmonton constituency will be replaced by a proposed Edmonton and Tottenham Hale constituency comprised of the Edmonton Green, Haselbury, Jubilee, Lower Edmonton and Upper Edmonton wards of Enfield and the Bruce Grove, Northumberland Park, Tottenham Hale and White Hart Lane wards of the London Borough of Haringey.
A further eight week consultation period will now follow, ending on 10 December 2012. Representations may only be made in writing to the Boundary Commission as there is no provision for public hearings at this stage.
The Boundary Commission will take into consideration any written representations made and then make its final recommendations to Government for consideration by Parliament in 2013.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
Best regards.
