A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
As a new resident to Russell Road, I would like to let you know that while the flat was empty (during exchange and completion) there was an attempt to break in through the front bay window!!! The hinges were broken but thankfully the window remained in tact. I have since cut some of the front garden foilage back so that there is nothing to hide behind etc. I spoke to Yasemin Brett (Enfield Councillor) at the BCPA meeting last week and told her I thought the street lighting in Russell Road was rather poor. She has asked me to email her about the break-in, street lighting, fly tipping (back of garages by canal) and any other issues. If there is a on going problem with crime in this road she may be able to get the local beat police to be more 'visual' in their presence. If you have any concerns email yaseminbrett@sky.com

Hi Julie,
Welcome to the area! Sorry to hear about the attempted break in, but glad to hear that it wasn't more serious.
Picking up on your note about fly tipping by the garages..I live on Palmerston Road and walk my dog along this part of the New River nearly every day, and this particular area has become a real eyesore and also a dangerous health hazard, I feel. I actually saw a man offloading a van full of rubbish one afternoon last week, and after making a note of the Registration number I reported him to Enfield Council. I can't imagine what it must be like to have a view of this mess from your flat!
Best Wishes,
Debbie.
There seems to be a spate of burglaries in the area. Two in Nightingale, one in Truro. The three I know about have similarities. Access was gained by forcing windows at the back of the house. The front door is then snibbed so the owner cannot get in. Computers and cameras seemed to have been the main thing taken. Seems quick and oportunistic. Make sure windows have a catch so they cannot be ovened if the snib is undone.
