A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Travelers on the First Capital Connect Rail service from Bowes Park and Alexandra Palace into Moorgate will have many tales of woe.
Over the last few months the Hertford Loop rail services have encountered delays, re-routing, platform alterations or cancellations almost daily.
Anyone who follows our Twitter feed may well have seen early morning messages about #FCCdelays
The situation became so bad that the FCC Franchise on the Hertford Loop became the subject of a special debate in Parliament. Nick de Bois MP for Enfield North secured a Westminster Hall debate - you can follow the full procedings here
The discussion was joined by other MPs whose constituents are affected by the FCC line. At one stage in the debate Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes spoke about his constituents afected by the poor service - he said" Enfield Chase, Winchmore Hill, Palmers Green and Bowes Park stations are all in my constituency."
This prompted an exchange on Twitter with Chris Jenkinson questioning David Burrowes territorial claim to Bowes Park station!
Its an interesting point as we in the Bowes and Bounds neighbourhood are at the edge of two constituencies and straddle the boroughs of Enfield and Harringey precise understanding of civic boundaries can be a bit hazy. So for a bit of background here are links to maps showing the boundaries of ourlocal Parliamentary constituencies:
... now ... if only they could get the trains to run on time!

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the write-up. Lynne Featherstone (H&WG) wasn't able to speak during the debate as she is a Minister, but I wrote to her ahead of the debate to ensure she was aware of it and to ask her to raise similar points with the Department for Transport, Network Rail and First Capital Connect regarding the "service" provided to local residents.
She, of course, has previously done so given the volume of issues and the number of frustrated constituents at Bowes Park, Alexandra Palace, Hornsey and Harringay stations, as well as those who use Finsbury Park.
But she has also passed on a recent letter she has written to the Chief Executive of Network Rail, David Higgins, regarding stations on this line. It notes that two-thirds of the delays faced by commuters who use this line are a result of infrastructure failures - under the remit of Network Rail - and asked for details of how Network Rail intends to address this in future.
I hope that Lynne will be able to pass on the response which I can share on this forum.
Chris
I'm wondering/dreading what the service will be like during our upcoming double whammy of tube strikes.
