Commuters face 'nightmare' at Finsbury Park as station entrance to close for TWO YEARS

Commuters have said they fear "nightmare" overcrowding at a major north London station after plans to close one of its main entrances were revealed.

Transport for London is planning to shut the Wells Terrace entrance of Finsbury Park station from next month.

The entrance, one of three at the station, will be replaced by a new gate which is not set to open until October 2017.

It is part of a £220million redevelopment of the area which will incorporate about 350 new homes, a cinema and restaurants.

The first phase of the redevelopment of Finsbury Park is expected to be completed by early 2018.

David Hughes, London Underground’s director of major programme sponsorship, said: “Finsbury Park Underground station is extremely busy, with over 27 million people using it annually, and with population growth on the rise it is set to get busier.

"We are in discussions with third party developers, Network Rail, and the London Borough of Islington about plans to introduce a new western station entrance and step-free access via lifts from street to platform level.  When the upgrade is completed the Finsbury Park Tube station will be step-free, passengers will have more space and journeys through the station will be quicker and more pleasant.”

Nightmare' Finsbury Park entrance closure POSTPONED until further n..., Transport for London confirms

The long-term closure of a Finsbury Park station entrance - which commuters feared would spell years of chaos - has been postponed until further notice.

Transport for London (TfL) had planned to shut the Wells Terrace entrance to Finsbury Park station for two-and-a-half years for renovation work.

But today it said the closure, which was set to take effect from Monday, was being delayed to "minimise disruption".............[info deleted]....

A spokesman for TfL said: "We are reviewing our options of how best to continue to deliver improvements at Finsbury Park Tube station."

The proposed works have been subject on discussion at an on line forum

Yes work postponed UFN. Ticket gates are in place at both Seven Sisters and Station Place (LU) entrances. They have been wired up ready and tested and are covered over. Not sure why the postponement as construction of the new entrance necessitates the demolition of the Wells Terrace passageway. Still no joy from either TfL or NR as to why the NR entrance at Station Place remains ungated. As I said in earlier postings - makes no sense if your gating the other two entrances to leave this one open for everyone to use for free access to the tube platforms!!

FINSBURY PARK STATION: from Monday 18 July 29016 the Wells Terrace entrance to Finsbury Park station will be closed. The entrances at Station Place and Seven Sisters Road will remain open. Weekday morning peaks from 0730 - 0930: a one way system will be in place. All entry will be via Station Place and all exit via Seven Sisters Road. Bus stopping arrangements in Wells Terrace and Station Place are not affected.
