Raising money/awareness for the renovation of Shaftesbury Hall by North London Samaritans
Hi there,
My name is Maddie Stocker and I run an online property agency working locally in the North London area. We have recently had the pleasure of having our funding pledge approved by the North London Samaritans. They have just received planing permission to renovate Shaftesbury Hall, a derelict building on Herbert Road, Bowes Park. The plan is to create a community space which will be able to play host to loads of community based acitivites and of course allow the North London Samaritans to carry out the amazing work they do with the most vunerable in society.
The property company I run works uniquely to sell property in the same respect as an estate agent would, carrying out viewings, take professional photos and only charging on a no sale no fee basis etc. however only costing a fraction of the amount of traditional estate agents, saving my clients anything up to £10,000 and sometimes more. We do this by not having a high street shop or snazzy company cars, which in this modern day are not necessary. By giving back to the community we have found that we have made great relationships not only with our clients but with local businesses and charities too.
The part I intend to and have be playing is to donate 20% of all company profit to the organisation in order to help them come closer to the £200,000 target they estimate the works will cost.

North London Samaritans will be the visiting charity at the final Broomfield Blues on Sunday 30th August, so as well as seeing Professor Redhair bashing out New Orleans style jazz followed by the UK number 1 Paul Lamb alongside Chad Strentz bringing a set that’s been selling out across the UK, it’s a chance to support our local Sams development efforts at their coffee and snacks and other stuff gazebo. First 500 get free entry so do plan to get there early.

TODAY: FLAT PACK CHURCHES a talk for Hornsey Historical Society by Marianne Zierau
Wednesday 13 May 8pm
Those already familiar with 'tin tabernacles' as well as those curious to learn about these iron churches will enjoy this talk. Illustrations include Bowes Park's Shaftesbury Hall, The growth of the population together with an increased interest in religion in the nineteenth century resulted in an increased demand for churches. In order to keep up with demand it was necessary to construct temporary churches. Iron churches were popular as temporary churches; they were cheap and quick to build. There were thousands of them all over the country of which less than 100 survive. In this talk Marianne Zierau will explore the history of iron churches as well as the history of how they were sold.

Talk starts prompt at 8pm. Latecomers will not be admitted.
