A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Archie Onslow, the programme manager of the North London Waste Plan (NLWP) has circulated a letter recently inviting suggestions for content in the new NLWP. The new waste plan will be drawn up by Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest Councils. It will set out how much waste the seven boroughs need to process, explain how planning applications for waste facilities in the boroughs will be decided, and identify enough sites for waste management.
Archie's letter argues that, since last year's examination never reached the point of testing the actual evidence in the previous plan, the information collated for the old plan forms a good basis for the latest version - in the view of the Pinkham Way Alliance, a highly questionable assumption. The previous plan was deeply flawed - not least due to the dubious application of the site selection criteria, which resulted in the identification of Pinkham Way as a suitable site for the one of the largest waste treatment plans in Europe within metres of densely populated residential areas, schools and other vulnerable residents, and adjacent to the A406 in a locality where the air quality is already persistently below that identified by the EU as healthy for humans.
The deadline for responding to this consultation is 7 June. It is vital that high numbers of people respond to this consultation.
The Pinkham Way Alliance has put together bullet points that can be used for responding to the consultation. These can be found in the link below. If you would prefer to be represented by the PWA in response to this preliminary consultation on the new NLWP, rather than submitting your own response, please complete the form in the link below by 10pm on Thursday 6th June 2013.
