A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Today the detailed route for the Olympic Torch Relay has been announced. The route will pass very close by - almost circling the Bowes and Bounds Area. The torch will be carried through both Enfield and Haringey on Day 68 of the relay - just two days before arriving at the Olympic stadium at Stratford.
On on the evening of July 25th 2012 the torch will arrive at Alexandra Palace as part of the final lap before the opening ceremony - during the 25th the torch will pass through Haringey and Enfield.

The relay will arrive from Barnet - cross Bowes Road, head up towards Southgate, passing Grovelands Park and then up Green Lanes to Winchmore Hill, it loops through Edmonton, crossing the North Circular on Fore street as it leaves Enfield and heads into Haringey via Tottenham, along Lordship Lane to Wood Green High Road, then via Turnpike Lane - and past Priory Park into Alexandra Palace where there will be an evening celebration event.
Throughout the route the torch will be carried by people who have been nominated as inspirational by their community - you can see the list of Enfield and Haringey torchbearers on the London 2012 website.
There are some remarkable stories of local people who will be participating in the relay.

So is some poor bugger going to have to run the last leg up to the top of Ally Pally? When I was trying to be a slim man before my wedding I did that three times a week and it never got any easier!
Oh okay Nell....once, and just occasionally twice, a week.
Did you see the bite-sized lowdown on Haringey on the site? It is, apparently, a 'shoppers delight' and Lee Valley Regional Park is 'nearby'. Er, yes, nearby in Enfield and beyond.
