A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Hurrah! I first heard the screech of what I thought was swifts, and then a few moments later I saw two swooping and diving above the end of Myddleton at the Whittington corner. They are 20 days earlier than last year - probably because the weather was so warm in April. I hope they are joined by others - there used to be dozens every year and their numbers have dwindled. Welcome back, Bowes Park Swifts, I hope you have a lovely and productive summer.

Please take the time to report any nesting swifts to the RSPB's swift mapper service here: https://www.rspb.org.uk/our-work/conservation/conservation-and-sust... There's also some info there about how you can help by putting up nest boxes. If you still have swifts in your area you have a much better chance of the boxes being made use of. They've declined in numbers massively in recent years so need all the help they can get (they're not just beautiful to watch they also eat a lot of the flying insects that humans are not very fond of).
