Thank you to everyone who came out today to see the new market in N11! I hope you had as much fun as we did.

After discussion with the traders and the locals we have decided to make this a weekly market. We want you to think of this market as YOUR local market.

Please spread the word and get your neighbours, friends and family to come along on Saturday from 11-3pm.

If you would like to see anything in particular at the market please share your ideas - we aim to please!

Thanks again for all your kind comments and encouragement and hopefully see more of you next week!

Thanks JJ.  I look forward to sampling your wares ...

Hi all,

Please remember that the location of the market has changed - still in the school but at the back! Please access from Park Road (road near green pub and tesco's) if the main gates are closed as the Saturday Schools resume this weekend. Thanks

Hi Beulah

Congratulations on getting the market off the ground. I have been both weeks and am impressed by the variety of stalls there - the market is a great addition to this area. Is there a reason it has been moved round the back of the school? It was really nice to see it out front on the first week - it was obvious to passing trade that something was going on whereas now it isn't as obvious. Good luck with everything - think the idea of getting a face painter is a great one,

Nicole

Thanks Nicola for the kind words and for coming to support the market. We are disappointed about the change of location but the school runs a saturday school so want to keep the main playground for the children to use. I agree that visually being at the front was much better - its a difficult one but maybe in the future we may be able to convince the school when it really picks up!

Don't forget to come get your coffee this Sat and we have a trader selling bags and jewellery!

I've been to the market both weeks so far and picked up some lovely stuff. I really want it to thrive.

Just one thing has made me wince both weeks - the names of those burgers. I'm all for not over protecting kids, jokey names etc, but the sign is right at toddler level and I'm really not looking forward to my kid asking me what a "gang bang burger" is. It just seems really out there and unnecessary, it's not even a double entendre I can explain the kid safe version of .

Hi Allison

Yes the boys have mentioned that they have had some feedback about their burger names - I can totally understand how you feel as I am a parent too and the thought of my son asking for a 'gang bang' is filling me with dread! I am speaking to the trader to find out if they can rename their burgers for our market and make it playful but still family friendly.

Thanks for your comments x

Dear Belluah

First and foremost I would like to say congratulations on setting up the market. I visited with my family on Saturday and had a greatly pleasant time. Hopefully over the next few weeks the word will spread and the market will grow and become a feature of the area. I hope you don't think me too churlish though when I say that I have found a few of your comments about the area a bit disapointed. I have lived in Bowes Park for forty years and like a good many other people I am very proud to say so. I have heard quite a few comments in the Journal and on websites about "finally having somewhere decent to go at the weekend" but there are a lot of people who work very hard to make the area what it is. They may not be to everybody taste but the Ranelagh and Springfield are good pubs who have live music and serve good food and more recently there is The Steps on Myddleton Road which for those of us old enough to remember, takes over Henleys which is its day was a brilliant little pub until it became run down. There are excellent fishmongers and butchers and bakers on Green Lanes that I have used for years that might not be called organic but offer exceelent quality and very good prices. Fatisa is another good restaurant and some of the greasy spoons serve tasty food without much fanfare. I hope this doesnt seem to negative towards you because as I said the market is a great new addition to the area and I want it to be a big success. But perhaps you could focus more on the positives like what is good about the area rather than the things that are no to so good, which we are all very aware of! Then you could say we were all singing from the same hymn sheet and putting some local pride back in to our community.

Best wishes

Eddie

Hi Eddie,

Thank you for your comments and for your kind words. Sat was a great day - the late British summer is def in our favor!

My comments about the area were not intended to upset anybody and what was said in the tottenham and hornsey journal was taken out of context as I only had a 2min telephone meeting with the journalist. I love living in Bounds Green and we are working towards buying our own place and staying within the area. I have lived in North London (Muswell Hill, Wood Green and now Bounds Green) since I was 3 and I would not choose to leave the area, and appreciate all the recommendations you have made.

I must confess that I have only discovered treats like the Step since I started the market and we are regulars at the Ranelagh and love our 'local' pub. My aim is for the market to be another addition to the community. I have spoken to local businesses like The Step, Owen's, local fishmongers etc to invite them to take a stall at the market. I also had a wonderful suggestion from a resident in Maidstone Rd to speak with the Ranelagh about organising a food and beer festival on the green near Warwick Road.

I can only apologise if I have caused any offence, and your comment is definately not negative (I just need to do a crash course in PR!) and thank you once again for supporting the market and for visiting.

Best wishes
