Hi

I'm looking for a washing machine repair man - can anyone recommend someone? I've seen the post from Sue back in November but Richard wasn't sure whether he was familiar with our make of machine (Prima) so need a back up plan!

Many thanks

Sarah

Hi there!

You might not have to have your washer fixed you could check out your local branch of the UK online based Free to Use/Join recycling/reuse organisation ilovefreegle.org Freegle is a non-profit organisation with only one goal 'To Stop Good Stuff Going to Landfill' and in doing that supports local communities and saves hundreds of tons of perfectly useful items from the dump every month. The groups local to you would be Enfield and Hackney but there are others. Freegle means 'Free Giving Locally Easily' - You can join as many groups as you wish so long as you only post offers on one group at a time to save confusion.

Freegle is run on Yahoo Groups since we have no regular funding so you'll need a Yahoo ID to register. Once you've registered you can change things like your password and the email address you'd prefer to use and how you receive mail (Individual emails, Daily Digest, No Mail/Web Only)

Freegle also has a presence on both Facebook and Twitter - You can either/or post a 'Wanted' ad or respond to an offer of a washing machine for instance. You can then offer your broken machine (Members may be able to fix them or use them for spares or repairs) and arrange a mutually convenient time to pick it up and when it breaks down put it back up and get another completely free of charge. Members can offer any broken white and electrical goods.

You must be able to pick up any items you've accepted from the member offering them. There are very few rules such as 'No Web Address's or links to other websites. No Swapping, Lending, Borrowing or Selling and no live animals. You may not ask members to deliver items although they can offer if they wish.  Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions? I'm happy to help

Regards

Liz

Hi Sarah,

You could try AJL Appliances Ltd in Fortis Green - I don't know how prices compare, but they were reliable about keeping their appointment with us and keeping us informed.  But as they're a company there will be a callout fee.

Good luck!

Hi Sarah

I have a very good washing machine repair man.  He is reliable, turns up quickly and is very effective.  My twenty two year old Zanussi broke down and I thought it was the end.  He came, had his arm around the back of the machine for about an hour and replaced the pump.  It has been working well since then.

The total cost plus the pump was £50.

Nick 07979417265

He repairs other electrical equipment ie fridges and dishwashers

Just a note of another satisfied customer for Nick. Was round within the hour, had a  diagnosis before we'd even finished pulling the machine out and hard the parts on hand. Job done in 30 mins AND he put the machine back.

Nick was able to come out the the day after I called. He diagnose both a washing machine & a dishwasher-both had died within the same week. Due to the high cost of repair we chose to scrap the machines and pay for the estimate instead.

It was really valuable getting such quick & helpful advice.

Another voice in the chorus of approval for Nick - rather than scratch his chin and try to sell me parts that weren't needed, he replaced a couple of washers, put it back together, and charged me the basic call out, which at £35 is pretty reasonable. Was an hour late, but nobody's perfect.

add my voice too. Nick came round a couple of hours after I'd called, repaired the machine at a very fair price, and was extremely pleasant to deal with
