Alexandra Palace awarded £24M to regenerate the People's Palace

Great news today that Ally Pally has been succesful in bidding for a large Heritge Lottery Fund award to regenerate the whole complex after much planning and public consultation (which we reported on this site)

An initial sum of £855,000 will be released to allow the development of detailed plans - with more money following later in the year. HLF funding of £16M is only part of the funding - Trustees at Ally Pally have generated matched funding from other sources and partners - about £24M in total, taken together the projected regeneration will see major changes to the "Peoples Palace" over the forthcoming years including bringing back into use the glorious Victorian Theatre and securing the future of the historic BBC Television studios.

Bounds Green Councillor, and Chair of the Alexandra Palace Board, Matt Cooke said: “This HLF funding will not only re-open derelict areas to full use and access, but will give a massive boost to the whole-site regeneration of one of London’s most exciting buildings.

We look forward to following the story as plans and proposals emerge.

Excellent!

I want to say something about the Phoenix rising but the Phoenix bar has always been such a poor experience, it doesn't quite work. Shame.

Good news!

That's really good! It sorely needs it.

I'm so pleased about this. The Palace must have put together the most brilliant bid, seeing as the V&A and South Bank Centre had theirs turned down. Great news for North London.

The new theatre plan is especially exciting, along with the prediction of more local jobs. Great news indeed.
