Does anyone know what has happened to The Prince?

This is the lovely pub near the obelisk, on Trinity Rd, at the edge of Trinity Gardens.  It is a locally listed building.

In the last few years it was run by two Egyptian brothers from Cairo.  It has wonderful internal spaces, and it would be a crying shame to lose it as a pub.

A few weeks before Christmas I noticed it was closed.  The lights on the bar pumps were still on but all dead inside.  Since then it has had windows broken and outside furniture chucked around. Looks very bad now.

Does anyone know?

And is there anything we can do?  Community pub?  Encourage Weatherspoons to take it over?  ????

well said, Caroline.

That's interesting Susan; there isn't a road now opposite is there?  I can just see the end of Braemar Avenue through the trees!

I walked past the pub today and yes it does seem to be undergoing a renovation.  So it's out of our hands... for the time being!  Perhaps we should all meet for a drink there when it re-opens.

I just checked for planning applications and there don't seem to be any so it'd unlikely that anything very dramatic is going to happen or that there will be a change of use.

Drinks are always a good idea Michael!

I passed The Prince this afternoon.

It is looking so much better!

The chaps working there say it will re-open Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Good news indeed.

Now we must all make sure it stays as a pub by having a drink there.  I do hope they will have some decent bitters this time....... there used to be such a fine range - but then I am going back a few years......

Well, I'm certainly in for a pint!

me too!

The Starting Gate is also now undergoing a refurbishment, no doubt their clients will be looking for somewhere else to drink over the next few weeks.

STOP PRESS!!

The Prince re-opens today, Wednesday the 4th at 4.pm.

Cheers!

thanks Caroline, will pop by later

Sadly, I saw people putting the "sky sports" banner back up today, and given the area the pub is in (tower blocks) I don't think it's going to be a middle-class 'gastro' pub.

With the Ranelagh,Maid of Muswell and (shortly from what I've heard) The Gate,is there really a market for a fourth middle class gastro pub in the area ? There are a lot of people in this area who dislike that kind of pub.
