The area around the entrance to the New River on Myddleton Road has been voluntarily looked after and tidied up by Caroline Simpson for a long time (years!) It's a hotspot for rubbish and cans and usually has an overflowing bin. Neither Thames Water nor the Council collect rubbish from here so it's a job for the community and Caroline has been a lone crusader trying to keep it looking nice for everyone for too long.

She can't continue to do this on her own.

CAN YOU HELP?

Firstly, can anyone volunteer to help out on Saturday morning, say 10ish, to get the place looking good for market day on Sunday? Please leave a comment below.

Secondly, can we coordinate some regular volunteer action so that Caroline doesn't have to worry about it any more? A monthly clean up group or a weekly rota? Ideas please!

She says:

"Litter pickers and gloves and bags can be provided. I also have a bin key if someone is strong enough to open the faulty lock!"

Yes. Caroline has done a magnificent job for years to keep to litter under control. I think a regular clean up is a great idea. Maybe we could have a volunteer coordinator who could put out a call on Bowes and Bounds to rally us in to action.

Many thanks for to all for kind words.

I have had 4 email offers of help for Saturday.

We are meeting at 11, at the Gym.

That is probably enough to clear that top and first bit on Saturday, but do come along too and do further down if you like.

Yes, a coordinator would be great.  It does need a long term strategy.

The top photo in Lindsey's post shows the tunnel top on a good day.

This one shows it after it hasn't been tidied for 5 days.
