The Bowes Park Community Association are holding a
Give or Take event on Saturday 30th October at Commerce Road Community Centre.
Give or Take events provide an opportunity to pass on any household items that you no longer require, and also to perhaps find something that you do, all for free! The concept helps to prevent waste by allowing items to be reused within your local community, and also perhaps save money too! The event is entirely run by volunteers with support from LB Haringey, and will run between 11am and 2pm. Items that can be accepted include books, clothes, toys, and household items. All electrical appliances will be safety inspected on the day. We can only accept items that are suitable for reuse, so please no dirty or broken items, or large items of furniture. Where possible, any leftover items will be taken to local charity shops and the Reuse and Recycling Centre for reuse.
This event is entirely run by volunteers and we are always grateful for any further assistance. Tasks include setting up the hall, logging and distributing items during the event, and transporting leftover items to charity shops and the Reuse and Recycling Centre. If you would like to be involved, please contact Adam on 07841 457243.
If you are unable to make the event, there are a number of organisations and charities that can accept items for reuse and recycling:
ReStore collect and redistribute reusable household furniture and appliances from householders and pass them on to individuals and families on low incomes. Haringey residents should contact the council on 020 8885 7700, and Enfield residents 020 8379 1000 to arrange a collection. Their warehouse is based in Tottenham Hale.
Forest Recycling Project run a community repaint scheme in North East London that reuses domestic paint for community benefit. Reuse paint is also available at low cost from their shop in Walthamstow.
Freecycle is an online forum that allows users to pass on items they no longer need to other individuals for free.
