Hi neighbours

Wouldn't it be great to get a Sunday market going on Myddleton Road. Has anyone ever explored this idea?

I was just reading the paper today and saw a story about a group who regenerate old arcades such as Granville Arcade in Brixton, filling empty units with independent retailers and creative spaces. I thought.. how could some of that spirit be transferred to Myddleton road..? I know there are lots of discussions about how it could be regenerated. Thankfully The Step is coming, which will hopefully kick start something, but also it got my mind thinking - a market would bring people to the area, you wouldn't have to deal with property / council / long lost owners issue of empty shops (although obviously it would be great to have them used in better ways eventually), and it would provide a place for local retailers to sell interesting stuff that you don't find in Wood Green!

My brother lives in Clapton and there are a couple of Sunday Markets. Chatsworth Road has become much more interesting with new independent shops. I dont see why Myddleton Road couldn't go the same way.

Lucy.

Yes that suits me - 6.30ish? I can be flexible so just let me know what suits you best.

Tuesday evening is when the BPCA meeting is, but I don't have to go along there until around 8 ish, so I could come along at 6.30 too.

Brilliant  - see you both there. L

Hello everyone. Just wanted to update you and let you know that we are very much still ploughing ahead with the plans for a market along Myddleton Road. We are hoping for 2 trials in the summer/autumn. We have a long way to go with it but seem to have made a breakthrough with the council.

Anyone who has left their info here or via the survey re trading, we will be in touch with details on what you need to have in place.  Excited!

best,

Lucy, Kari and Anna.

Hi all,

That's such great news. You need determination of steel and by the looks of it you'll get there. A market would be fantastic for Myddleton Road and we will support it in every way we can.

Well done all... can't wait!

Hi Lucy,

This sounds like an interesting development - could you give me a call - I'm thinking of writing an article for it for the paper.

My number is: 0208 370 5476

Hi i am still interested in helping out and would take a stall.

Dalene

Yes Lucy totally agree.. but how does this get started ?

Hello, my daughter is fundraising for a World Challenge trip to Malaysia.  We would be interested in either having a stall and/or being paid a small amount to leaflet the area with publicity leaflets.  Let us know.

Hello Everyone

Just to let you know thanks to Haringey Council being very accommodating with our mission - we have got the go ahead for the 2 trial markets!

The first of which is scheduled for Sunday 16th June, 11am-4pm. We will be on Myddleton Road near the junction with Marlborough Road, towards the community garden and new gym. We're hoping for a really nice mix of stalls (all your comments on the survey have been gratefully received), with a local element, food you can eat there and take away, arts and crafts, clothes etc. Full details will be announced nearer the time.

Because we are holding it on the street we need to adhere to Haringey's conditions with licences. As such we are requesting all interested traders submit an application for a stall before 15th April. We'll then consider all applicants and let them know a stall number, if successful. Those booked will need to arrange all the proper licences, and certificates.

All the details are on our shiny new website: www.myddletonroadmarket.co.uk - under Trader Info - there is a link to an online application or a PDF that can be posted or dropped into The Step.

Once again, thanks to everyone on here for showing your support! We are really looking forward to the first market on Myddleton Road!

Please spread the word to possible traders - Twitter: @myddletonmarket / Facebook.com/myddletonroadmarket

Thanks very much

Lucy, Kari and Anna

Just to say a huge thankyou to Lucy for seeing this through and being so patient with the council and the powers that be! If it hadn't been for her persistence over the past 16 months we would never be where we are today.

Please do check out the website, share the FB page if you're on FB, and retweet the tweets! (Again, thanks to Lucy for getting the media in place too!)

And diarise that date! :-)

Kari

Kari

Diarised! Well done to all of you who've brought this together, don't think for a minute we don't know how much you've put in to it, we really do appreciate it.

Now let's get this market some legs and get galloping!
