I just received a letter from the council about a planning application for the building, opposite the tube station, where Scorpio Minicabs operate from. The application reference is HGY/2016/1604

I like the idea of doing some maintenance to the building and removing the excessive signage that clutters this building. However, they also want to add one floor to this corner to make space for a bigger flat. I looked at all the documents and, in my humble opinion, the proposed extension looks quite horrendous (pages 18-23 in attached PDF flle).

I want to oppose this application but, before I do it, I would like to know your opinions about this proposal.  I don't want to feel I am over-reacting!!

This is the link for the application:

Personally I do not find this horrendous.

I think that Option 1 would look fine - even slightly improve the corner by a bit of balance with the others .  Certainly the renovation of that block would be very good indeed.

But a few years ago the local Cllrs were talking about a full redevelopment and improvement of that whole large corner block.  I wonder what happened to that idea.

honestly what are these people doing to our building--have just looked at designs  I don't believe it-to put a hat onto an original deco  building -and stick on an ugly topfloor--not to mention ripping out' crittal' windows why are we allowing these people to destroy our area.

You are not over reacting -- ihave just sent my objection--I'm so cross-as 35 Maidstone  is also in the firing line-

I have also heard that the large house next to Bet fred  is to be demolished and a block of flats put up. This has been kept quiet too.

Hi

I've also had a look - I think it does look weird, although I also recognise that there is some attempt to blend the new bit in with the existing Art Deco style.  I agree that of the proposals, Option 1 is probably the least offensive.  But there's no getting away from the fact that it looks like what it is, an unnecessary and awkward addition.  While I would hate for the area to become darker and more oppressive, it would make more sense to build a whole new floor all the way along (but then I would REALLY object).

It's not as bad as 35 Maidstone, but it's still a shame that they can't just tidy that whole block up a bit.  I don't think you are over-reacting, if you hate the look of it you have every right to say so.
