Does anyone know if the wheel clampers at bounds green are legit or can some action be taken against them? A friend got clamped today, we have also been victim to them, it is nothing less than robbery in my opinion... no signs, lurking right next to the spaces, demanding £170 then saying they'll do a deal @ £125; "I need to feed my 5 kids" etc etc. They are outrageous. I heard private wheel clampers were going to be outlawed but don't no if that ever got through... Anyone ever got their money back?

Thoughts?

A lot of people are getting clamped behind Clockwork Pharmacy (opposite side of road) too. I'm tending towards a blanket approach in which the posters will be placed in every shop in the area. Advantages:

1. Have posters not notices. The posters will inform pedestrians, vehicle owners and parkers. Today's pedestrian may come back tomorrow in her car and get caught.

2. Solidarity in numbers

• About lobbying the owner of the land in front of Wilkinson Byrne, here are the details taken from "What should you do if you've been clamped" :

Here's the germ of a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) which may help you with putting you case to the Landlord. If you see any typos or inaccuracies there, please help and point them out.

Hi Kevin et al

Apologies for not feeding back earlier - I popped into Wilkinson Byrne to ask about displaying posters - they are completely with us on the issue, but won't display posters.  Sais Cafe is now closed, and there's no room in the grocer's window (obscured by fruit and veg!).

So let's hope the freeholders get back to WB with something positive.

Mary

Thank for enquiring Mary, it's helpful to know that the poster idea is a dead end.

• I look forward to getting the update from Wilkinson Byrne

• The grocer's taking the Mickey telling you there's nowhere to put up a notice. In the last week they've got permission to put up two large perspex advertising hoardings to the left and the right of the shop entrance. What's worse is the notice on the right has completely replaced the clamping warning notice that was previously there!

Here's what was there before the perspex notices were put up:

Hi Kevin

In the grocers' defence I didn't speak to them as I was investigating window space for your prospective posters (not wall space), and there didn't seem to be any - just fruit and veg!

The current edition of the Haringey Independent carries the story of the latest clamping victim... charged a weeks wages for parking!

A couple of bits of news on this issue today.

The Haringey Independent have followed up a news story from earlier this week by featuring an interview with Kevin about the campaign to stop the clamping. (read the interview)

I was also alerted via Twitter that the Act of Parliament seeking to stop private sector wheel clamping received Royal Assent on May 1st.

Hallelujah! Thanks Richard for sharing the wonderful news.

*****Please Come and Celebrate*****
I'm urgently looking for a large group of residents to join me in being photographed by the Haringey Independent near Bounds Green Tube. This is our opportunity to reclaim the streets and celebrating the passing of the law that makes private clamping illegal.  This publicity is vital as we need to show the local landlords that we will continue to oppose any alternative scheme that unfairly exploit motorists who visit our area. Please respond on this thread to say if you're able to come.
Everyone's welcome, young, old, recent arrival or long-term resident. We need to show-off the diversity of our friendly area.

Meeting place: The bicycle stands in front of Bounds Green Tube Station (Near the entrance with step-free access to the ticket hall)
Date : Saturday 4 May
Time : 11:00 am to 11:15 am

• Souvenir copies of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 CHAPTER 2 (Vehicles left on land) will be given to all who attend.

That's good news for the people of Bounds Green and Enfield, I just feel sorry for everyone who had been caught and glad to see the back of the private clampers.

No, we haven't seen the back of them. See this video taken at 15:30 today.

Please, if you can, come and participate in the photo-shoot tomorrow.

That's excellent news! I would love to be there tomorrow but I have to be out of town. I look forward to seeing the piece in the paper! Well done Kevin.

Correction:Time video was taken, 17:30.

Just want to say that I was disappointed at the turn-out this morning. It would be nice to know if the local community actually wants to see the back of the clampers?

What does everybody think?

Would people commit to attending if we organised a campaign/ photo-shoot for the press and gave a week's notice?
