From W-at-S station we head down Church Lane to reach the parish church of St Mary & St Andrew and then head up Perrywood Lane turning left at an arrow post to head across fields. En route we will have views of the Woodhall Estate and its 18th century house which is let to Heath Mount School (an independent girls preparatory school). The Estate, which is a working farm, has also been used as a film location for ITV’s Foyle’s War, Stephen Poliakoff’s the Lost Prince and My Uncle Silas by H E Bates. On reaching the end of the fields we cross over the road to enter the Estate and walk past its lake and some farm buildings before we do a U-turn across a couple of low stone bridges to head directly south along the valley of the River Beane passing through Stapleford, Waterford and the pretty Waterford Marshes Nature Reserve. We then head back to Hertford North Station via tracks and quiet side roads. We have the choice of taking post-walk refreshment in the Pub opposite the station or catching the next train back to Bowes Park and heading for The Step. Return trains from Hertford North are at 13 and 43 minutes past the hour.
Please wear comfortable footwear and bring plenty of water to drink.
