Local History

Our area has a rich and diverse local History, with some odd and quirky stories of times past.

Wikepedia has an outline history of Bowes Park and a similar page for Bounds Green - with a little more detail in the short history on the Bowes Park Community Association website.

Enfield's local history museum is based at Thomas Hardy House in  Enfield Town and Bruce Castle Museum is the local history archive for Haringey.

Knowing about the past of the place you live is an important part of shaping its future. We plan to share the interesting and unusual stories of our area - and offer a platform for others to publish their own research and writing. If you have an idea for a story please get in touch.

On This site we have several local history photographs, (see left) and quite a few local history discussions in the forums - including a dedicated category for local history.

However most of the local history is in our Featured Articles.
Here are some links to a few of our favourite stories:

Remembering Palmers Green

The short film below was made by Kevin O'Neill of Southgate Photographic Society. It combines archive images of Palmers Green with current pictures of the same location taken by Society members. Its a remarkable record of how our area has changed over the centuries.
