Trees and avenues: an autumnal look at formal planting in Alexandra Park.
Adrian will lead the group beside the Pavilion car park to the avenue of planes by GoApe, then look at the lines of limes leading to the deer enclosure exit, before returning through the horse chestnuts that lead up to the Rose Garden. We would, of course look at other specimens en route, and talk a bit about how trees change in autumn.
The idea will be to get people to think about why some areas have been planted formally and others have been left to grow naturally, which species are used in formal planting, and how to recognise them.
