Saturday 21 April – 6 mile Linear Walk Cuffley to Gordon Hill
The walk takes us across fields, skirting woods and into Whitewebbs and Hilly Fields Parks.
En route we will pass a small viaduct (“Sopers Viaduct”) built to carry the railway into Cuffley over the valley of the Northaw Brook and, in Whitewebbs, a nicely restored aqueduct that used to carry the New River over the Cuffley Brook.
Option 1 – the full walk (6 miles total) stopping at the King and Tinker for well-earned refreshments before entering Whitewebbs. A small group previewing this walk also could not pass the Fallow Buck later on before dropping down to Hilly Fields – we will decide on the day.
Option 2 – for those wanting a shorter walk (3 miles total) the walk leader will give you a map and direct you southwards at a crossroads of bridleways 1 ¾ miles into the walk. This will take you under the M25 and emerge at a corner at the end of the row of garden centres in Crews Hill, and folk can travel home from the station there. You’ll miss the aqueduct but have the chance of a browse instead.
Walk leader: Caroline Wall (mobile 07803 172527)
Travel: Meet at Bowes Park Station ticketed and ready to catch the 13h41 train (arr. Cuffley 13h54) – buy an off-peak day return to Cuffley.
