Event Description

Next Walk:

Sunday 1 January  - Historic East London: Shadwell to Westferry, led by Sarah Harris
07801 950127

Meet at Bounds Green Underground Station at 11am.  We will then travel to Shadwell via Highbury and Islington on the East London Line.

On the walk we will see among other sights: amural depicting the fight between local residents and Fascists in 1936; a Hawksmoor masterpiece, New Tobacco Warehouse, Shadwell Basin and Free Trade Wharf, a ‘Waterloo’ church, the setting for Dombey and Son, and the Grapes, which features in Our Mutual Friend where we can stop for refreshments.

The walk takes approx 2 and a half hours.  It might be a good idea to bring sandwiches just in case we do not find a suitable lunch as it is New Year's Day.
