Pilgrimage is an essential part of life and living. Christians (and often others) see life itself in terms of a journey, coming from God and returning to God.
Back in the Middle Ages Christian pilgrimages were very popular. It was not like going on holiday. For some, pilgrimages often took years. The journeys were often long and dangerous .... They usually travelled in groups ....Pilgrims undertook these journeys to holy places because it was important for their faith. Sometimes they went for healing of a physical condition.
Pilgrims today go Holy places for all sorts of reasons and one way or another whether they realise it or not they find God and are healed in many ways.
Those who wish to take part in the Camino de Winchmore Hill Pilgrimage will gather at Holy Trinity Church from 10:00am together with a picnic, wearing suitable shoes.
The pilgrims will be issued with a passport which will be stamped at each holy place that is visited.
The first point of call is the Baptist Church (Compton Road) and the process to the Church of England Church, (St Pauls Winchmore Hill) on Church Hill and will then gather in Grovelands Park for the picnic.
Leaving by the Inverforth Gate of Grovelands Park via Fox Lane to Palmers Green United Reformed Church (Burford Gardens); onwards to the Church of England Church of St John the Evangelist ( corner of Bourne Hill) forward to the Roman Catholic Church of St Monicas (1, Stonard Road N13) for refreshments and to watch the processing of Gifts for St Mary's Meals which may already be underway
The pilgrimage is being organised by Churches Together of Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill. All welcome to join as much as people are able
