Born in North-East London, Kianja was raised on a musical diet of soul, reggae and jazz. Her passion for songwriting and performing began when she was just 12 years old, shortly before she moved to Durban, South Africa for three years. Embracing this new culture, her love affair with jazz took hold and she began to hone her songwriting craft.
On her return to London, she attended the coveted Brit School, then Guildhall (where she studied Jazz), whilst writing and producing her original material in her bedroom. Her talent and hard work brought the young Londoner overwhelming critical support. Her debut EP ‘Glory’ lead to air-play on BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM and 1Xtra and her live performances earned her a personal recommendation from Nile Rodgers to perform at Meltdown Festival at the Southbank, London. Kianja has gone on to perform at Ronnie Scott’s, Colours Hoxton, Royal Festival Hall and more.
Unafraid to fuse genres, Kianja is dedicated to writing relatable and honest songs that will stand the test of time.
