Haringey Parks Department, who have worked so hard with us to improve the Gardens, are suffering from extreme cutbacks to their budget. This only allows them to cut the grass 12 times a year and trim the shrubs once. This leaves all the weeding planting and general maintenance of the gardens and the beds at both ends to volunteers.
Finsbury Diggers usually meet on the Second Sunday of the month but our June working afternoon is being postponed to 16th for this month as so many people are on holiday. There are regularly six or seven of us but if the flower beds are to be maintained we need lots more help! Weeding followed by a picnic - good way to spend a couple of hours and you meet some nice people too.
We will meet at 2.0 and work for two hours. If the weather is nice then we can have a picnic in the gardens. We all just bring something and share. If it is cold and nasty all are welcome to picnic at my house just round the corner.
Please bring any garden tools you have, gloves, secateurs, trimmers etc. But if you have none of these, no worries, just come along and we will kit you out. Or just come along for a chat and join the picnic.
If you would like to get involved at the start of a new era of Finsbury Gardens, now is a good time to start. We have a grand opening to organise in September and a Festival next year
