It's the French film "La Regle du Jeu" or in English "Rules of the Game". There will be space for people to chat about the film afterwards if they wish.

A stinging satire of the French class system cloaked in a comedy of manners

Set during a lavish weekend shooting party at a grand country chateau, The Rules of the Game mercilessly dissects the French class system as it follows the romantic tangles of the assembled aristocrats and their entourage above and below stairs. As the bullets start to fly the divisions open up like a gaping wound, exposing a society riddled with petty jealousies and pretensions, self-indulgence, decadence and hypocrisy. Evidently hitting a little too close to home for the audience at the time, with reports of near-riots at early screenings, it was widely derided on its release and subsequently banned by the French government for its 'unpatriotic' content.

Now reclaimed as a classic of prewar French realism, often cited alongside Citizen Kane for its innovative camerawork and technical achievements, The Rules of the Game is regarded as one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. Its enduring influence is particularly evident in Robert Altman's celebrated 2001 ensemble piece Gosford Park.

Haringey Independent Cinema screenings are at the West Green Learning Centre, West Green Road, N15 (next to Downhills Park).

Train
The nearest station is Seven Sisters Underground & Mainline Rail Station (from Liverpool St). From there you can either walk (15 to 20 minute walk) or catch any bus along West Green Road.

Tube
Seven Sisters (Victoria Line). Turnpike Lane (Piccadily Line). From either of these stations you can walk (15 to 20 minute walk) or catch any bus along West Green Road.

Bus
Numbers 41, 341, and 67 pass nearby the gates of West Green Learning Centre. We advise that you get off at a stop near Philip Lane near West Green Road. Entrance is next door to Downhill Park.
