Event Description

HATCH END TO ELSTREE. Length 7.5 miles. Can be shortened after 4 miles. Countryside walk. Please wear suitable footwear. 
 
MUST BRING PICNIC LUNCH. There is a Pret a Manger and an M.&.S.at Euston Station, on the journey out.  
The walk follows an interesting part of the London Loop along north London's highest ridge. Features along the route include architect Norman Shaw's Grimsdyke House (home of W.S. Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, now a hotel) and a stunning picnic viewpoint - Harrow Weald Common - Bentley Priory nature reserve - Stanmore Common and village - Brockley Hill obelisk - Aldenham Reservoir.

Meeting point and time: Bounds Green Station, 10.00 a.m.
Journey out: Underground to Euston, then Overground to Hatch End . 70 to 90 minutes. Toilet at Hatch End Wetherspoons pub.
Journey back: Elstree and Borehamwood Station to St. Pancras. 25 minutes
Travel: all outer stations are Zone 6
Lunch: we will picnic after Grimsdyke at view point or in the garden of 'The Case Is Altered' pub. Sadly the pub kitchen is CLOSED, drinks only.
Afternoon refreshment stop: Fishery pub opposite Aldenham Reservoir.
End of walk pub: Elstree Wetherspoons pub.
Shortening walk after 4 miles: from Stanmore Village catch 142 bus to Stanmore Station (4 buses an hour),or walk through Stanmore Country Park to station.  
Estimated end of walk time - 5:30-6.00pm
