Event Description

We welcome Carol Tulloch (Professor of Dress, Diaspora and Transnationalism at University of the Arts London) for this special illustrated evening talk to complement our current exhibition ‘Wraparound’ at Bruce Castle Museum. Carol will be considering what contributions textiles have made to the styles created by individuals of the African Diaspora. She will draw on some of her past cultural heritage projects, which have explored dress, Black identities and style narratives.
Professor Carol Tulloch is based at the Chelsea College of Arts, is a member of the Transnational Arts, Identity and Nation Research Centre (TrAIN), and also the Chelsea/V&A Fellow at the V&A Museum. As a curator and writer, her recent work includes the book 'The Birth of Cool: Style Narratives of the African Diaspora', the exhibition and book 'Rock Against Racism: Syd Shelton' (co-curator and co-author).
