About the Gesualdo Six:
The Gesualdo Six are a vocal sextet specialising in the performance of renaissance polyphony, directed by Owain Park. Formed in March 2014, the ensemble has since gone on to perform numerous concerts in and around Cambridge. The group is made up of undergraduates and graduates of Cambridge University, and currently the choirs of King’s, St John’s and Trinity colleges are represented.
Recent concerts have included performances of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday (Feria Quinta) in King’s College Chapel, and a juxtaposition of madrigals by Monteverdi with Ligeti’s Nonsense Madrigals. Other recent programmes have included works by the English and Italian renaissance masters, and madrigals and folksongs from across Europe.
This summer, the group will record their first disc, before touring parts of the UK with a diverse programme of music from the renaissance to the present day. The Gesualdo Six are St John’s Smith Square Young Artists 2015-2016.
