A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Last Wednesday 27th May, Volunteers from the Broomfield Community Orchard collected a Forestry Commission London RE:LEAF Tree and Woodland Award for transforming Broomfield Park's unused bowling green into a thriving orchard used for community activities such as music events and skills training.
The awards event at London City Hall celebrated the work of individuals, communities and professionals to protect, improve and expand the capital’s tree and woodland cover. Roger Evans (Deputy Mayor) and Ian Gambles (Forestry Commission England Director) attended the event and congratulated everyone in London for their hard work. The aims of the awards are: To celebrate the work of individuals, communities and professionals to protect, improve and expand the capital’s tree and woodland cover. To inspire others to manage their trees and woodlands. To raise the profile of London’s trees / woodlands and the need for management.
Well done to our local award winners who have added to the community facilities in Broomfield Park - with so much volunteer-led activity by the Friends of Broomfield Park - plus the Conservatory, the Palmers Greenery Cafe, the amazing programme of summer music and the Palmers Green festival Broomfield is rapidly becoming North London's "Peoples Park".
