I often go up north, being from Yorkshire, and I love the small town of Saltaire which is a World Heritage Site.   They have a lovely tradition of dressing their windows for Advent and you can read about it here:

This is a lovely idea that only really works in a small community and Myddleton Road area might be just right for this sort of thing, with it's pretty terraced houses and period shops.  We live in a multi-cultural neighbourhood, so maybe it could be combined with Divali or any other multi-cultural festivities.  It wouldn't work where I live, in Passmore Edwards House, as we are not really part of such an intimate neighbourhood, visible from the road.
