Notes
British Railways - Built at Swindon Works in 1962, its previous depots include Ipswich and Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. During its spell at IoW, it carried the Network South East colours , superceeding its previous BR blue livery.

Industrial - After a transfer to Hornsey T&RSMD, it lost the NSE livery, being outshopped on the 24th September 1998, in the WAGN colours of white and dark grey. Following a competition in a WAGN staff magazine, the repainting was to mark the naming of 03179 the following day. At a ceremony at Kings Cross station, it was named  Clive, by Clive Allison, a retiring maintenance supervisor at Hornsey depot, who had completed 43 years of service.

In late July 2006, it received yet another repaint, this being its current livery of First Capital Connect purple.

Due to the 03 being loaned out to the Nene Valley Railway for a diesel gala, it was loaded on the 29th February 2008, leaving Hornsey and North London by road. Arriving at Wansford later on in the day, its spell as a visiting loco didn't get off to the best of starts, as it failed a day after being unloaded !

Due to its failure and possibly the cost of it being repaired, it was decided to withdraw the 03 from traffic on the 31st July 2002, it residing at Hornsey T&RSMD.

Rumours suggested in 2015, that the 03 had been made available for sale. To add weight to that, it was noted in April 2016, minus its  Clive  nameplates and commemorative cabside plaques. Announced to the public on the 19th July 2016, the 03 has been bought by the Rushden, Higham & Wellingborough Railway. The same day, it left Hornsey for its new home in Northamptonshire, thus entering preservation. No details have been either released or possibly even thought about yet, regarding its current NSE colours. It will need attention before making its maiden journey across the Rushden line, so presumably any livery change will take place during its repairs.

Despite being 54 years old, 03179 has potential (after repairs) to usefully contribute to the work being undertaken at Rushden
