This Friday is Comic Relief's Red Nose Day - this regular fundraising fun has propelled itself to become a national event - so much so that PM tony Blair famously performed in a comedy sketch. I hear whispers that Gordon Brown may appear this year ... not perhaps the most natural comedian?

However alongside the rich and famous celebrities on TV what really matters are the local events and activities raising much needed money.

Volunteers are raising small amounts which, agrregated together, generate the life changing sums that Comic relief spends to tackle poverty and social injustice both in the UK and throughout the world.

So I was particularly pleased to spend a little money locally in Bowes Parkat Maritsa's Cake sale last weekend. Maritsa and her family turned their front garden into a cake shop - selling delicious home made cakes and raising a bit of money for Comic Relief!

What are you doing for Red Nose Day?
