The down escalator at Bounds Green has been out of action on and off since Christmas -a quick check on the Transport for London website reveals this message:

Bounds Green: From Friday 14 January until mid May 2011, no down escalator service due to the continuation of refurbishment work. Access to the platforms will be via the central staircase (86 steps). If you are unable to use the stairs, please use the following buses to Wood Green station: Bus 221 from stop BA on Bounds Green Road or bus 184 from stop BB on Brownlow Road.

Whilst I understand the need for regular maintenance and the restrictions of working conditions in a listed building ... and underground, I can't help but think this is a little excessive - the escalator was out of action for several months just last year. So far this year I am not particularly impressed with the service offered by TfL for the significantly increased cost of my Oyster card!
