A new web site from English Heritage was launched yesterday, Britain from Above, is a collection of fascinating historic aerial photography from across the UK.

A four year project aims to both conserve the oldest and most valuable photographs in the Aerofilms collection, and then make them available on the Britain From Above website for the public to see. People are encouraged to  help recognise buildings and landscape features as yet unidentified and also to share stories about the locations - to provide a rich resource for others to use.

The project is not yet complete. By 2014, there will be nearly 100,000 images of Britain available online, yet already some amazing images of our neighbourhood have begun to emerge.

See slide show below or click on individual images for info - or to comment.
