British Gas is reducing energy bills

British Gas has announced a 5%* reduction in the price of gas from Thursday 27th August. The price reduction relates only to the supply of gas exclusive of VAT for existing and new customers on its Standard (variable)** and Fix and Fall tarriffs**

**The gas price cut on 27th August 2015 is an average reduction of 5%, with any variations reflecting the cost of distributing energy to different regions.

Do I need to do anything to get the price reduction:

No, you don't need to do anything. Your gas price will automatically reduce on 27th August 2015 and is for new and existing customers.

The British Gas billing system will normally take the previous meter reading and your the meter reading taken for the next bill and apportion (estimate the) usage in accordance to the number of days.

If this averaging will affect your bill adversely because of (for example) absence on holiday, the weather, illness or other personal circumstances a user can take their own current meter reading and submit an interim reading.You can submit the meter reading by using the British Gas 24 hour automated service on 0800 107 0224

What happens if I can't give you a meter reading?

If we don't have an actual meter reading, we will estimate your bill. This estimate will be based on:

• Your past usage.

• Previous meter readings.

• The time of year.
