A Community Network for Bowes Park and Bounds Green
Megan Sinfield is an artist who likes to focus on depicting "Places that are maybe overlooked or ignored. ... not beautiful, although some have a faded grandeur of beauty past its prime, now run down and falling apart." So it's no surprise that she found inspiration in Myddleton Road, Bowes Park.
Amongst her work are many images of functional buildings - shops, takeaways, tube stations. Megan explains that her intention is "to uncover an element of beauty in places you wouldn't expect and to celebrate local treasures, sources of comfort and familiarity to those who pass them everyday."
"I believe that any building can be beautiful if it has meaning to someone." she says.
Megan works in digital collage - created by scanning a drawing into a computer and then building it up with layers, blending sections of photographs to create interesting colours and rough textures which often resemble painting.
Megan used to live in north London and is now based in Bristol. She will be exhibiting her work in Myddleton Road at The Step later this year as part of the AP and beyond Art Festival and will be available at a "meet the artist" event on June 23rd.
I am grateful to Megan for allowing us to use one of her delightful images Lyons 2012 on the site. You can see more of her work, including images of Arnos Grove Tube station and The Shaftesbury Hall "Tin Tabernacle" at her website.
