Cinema Club for the Over 50s: Dolores, Fri 7 Dec, Bernie Grants Arts Centre

The next film at the Haringey Over 50's Forum's Cinema Club for the Over 50's will be Dolores.

Synopsis:

Latina civil rights crusader Dolores Huerta, who invented the slogan ‘Yes We Can’, is the star of Peter Bratt’s inspiring documentary DOLORES. The film documents the 87-year-old’s lifetime of activism, giving a voice to disenfranchised Latino workers in California.

DOLORES charts her central role in the turbulent history of American social justice and workers’ rights since the ’60s: from the organization of Mexican-American fieldworkers in California to the Delano grape strike that moved tens of millions of Americans to boycott non-union grape growers -  the largest consumer boycott in US history – which led to new rights for farm workers. Her contribution however is largely unrecognised.

Told through archival footage, and interviews with Dolores Huerta herself, the film looks back at her sacrifices, her legacy and her work for justice that continues to this day.
