Congratulations to the staff at Bowes School who, last week, were awarded a Conservation Foundation Green Corner Award, celebrating Londoners who play their part in making the capital greener and more biodiverse.

The Bowes School garden has been created and built with entirely recycled materials. School staff memberes Ailsa Martin, right, and Christine accepted the award for the school from Actress Susan Hampshire.

This lovely green space is in a very small school playground - which as we mentioned last week is adjacent to the North Circular and suffers from poor air quality - but staff and children have worked hard to enliven a "green corner". In fact some of the roadworks to close the Stanley Road entrance onto the North Circular have affected this garden area as a new turning circle is being built - but after the re-building the plants will again grow back in the corner of the playgrond.
