Just to let people know at around 9.40 pm this evening (Tuesday). We had a very urgent knock at our door which was a middle aged, smartly dressed, black woman stating that she knew us and that she lived on our street, Fletton Road . She said she was in a rush to get to work at Chase Farm Hospital as she was late and she needed £18.50 for a taxi. She told us her husband Steve was out but she promised he would pay us back.
I stepped back to check with my partner that he did not actually know her as I did not recognise her myself and I told her I had not seen her before. I asked her if she was a nurse at the hospital and she said yes so I asked to see her I.D card. She then rushed off pretty sharpish in disgust at us not trusting her.

She was almost convincing but definitely a scam. Please be aware.

I've had something similar (although not recently) a man asking me for money on the doorstep for the cab driver who'd brought his injured daughter back from hospital, saying he lived just round the corner and the cabbie wouldn't leave without payment. When I said I'd get my shoes on and come with him to pay the driver directly he oddly disappeared.

A few months ago I was in a pub in Stoke Newington when a young woman came in the pub with a Macmillan Cancer Research sponsorship form saying she was going on a Sponsored walk that Sunday. It was obvious from the look of her  she had or has a problem with drink and or drugs and she was asked to leave the premises when she failed to come up with any ID by the staff.Imagine my surprise only yesterday afternoon (23rd August) when having a drink in the Alfred Herring (Wetherspoons) pub in Palmers Green when I see the same woman come up to me with a well worn Macmillan sponsorship form saying she was going on a sponsored walk that Sunday and was looking for sponsors ! I said no and carried on with my drink.I looked over to another table to see a man handing her a £10 note ! I went to the bar to tell the manager but she had left as soon as she got her £10 I think. So everyone beware if drinking in a pub and someone comes up to you with that story, she is a total scam artist.
