Enfield Council turning off street lighting to save money

What do you think of the proposal by Enfield Council to turn off street lighting in the middle of the night?

The story was reported on the Enfield Independent website this morning - is it a sensible saving of money and energy? Or is this austerity budgeting gone too far?

Is it April 1st already? I like the idea of the new energy management system reducing the amount of electricity used, but not turning them off totally..
