A message from the Friends of Finsbury Gardens:

As you may have noticed, Finsbury Gardens is currently closed and being dug up.

Although it's all looking a bit agricultural at the moment, (see below) this is actually very exciting. Over the last year or so the Friends of Finsbury Gardens have secured enough Lottery money to renovate the ballcourt, replace some of the fencing and also do some quite interesting landscaping and planting as well as other improvements.

Most of the work will be happening in May, but due to one or two delays and things like the weather and the hosepipe ban, it's looking likely that the new, improved Finsbury Gardens won't be ready in time for a festival this year, so we're sorry to say that ...

...this year's Bowes Park Festival in Finsbury Gardens has been called off.

We are intending to have a small opening event in September, but even then it's likely parts of the gardens will still be fenced off to allow the new grass time to get properly established. On the plus side, it looks like we already have the funding in place for a great festival next year in a greatly improved FG!

Thank you all for your understanding.

Whilst it's good news in the longer term that the infrastructure of the gardens is being developed and improved - it is little sad in the short term that there will be no FinsFest this year.

This year we will have to make do with the Jubilee and Olympics - although not a patch on our own neighbourhood celebrations!

Here is a short film capturing some of the flavour of last year's festival:

I am having a 40ft monkey-puzzle tree cut down and need a home for the wood.  It could be cut into slices or two or three metre lengths and might be suitable for gardening projects (Finsbury Gardens) or planks or decorative turning.  The tree is situated a stones throw from Finsbury Gardens on Clarence Rd.
